In the afternoon, I head to mysecond historical site: Pedra do Sal in the Saúde neighborhood. I walk down from Santa Teresa and arrive at 4:00 p.m. This rock marks the birthplace of samba and has deep African-Brazilian history. I explore the area, see the old salt unloading spot, and learn about its importance. I often feel connected to the culture here. Sometimes there are small music groups playing, but today it is quiet and peaceful.
Later, for an early dinner, I choose a churrascaria called Assador Rio near the lagoon. I arrive at 6:00 p.m. The rodízio brings endless meats like picanha, chicken hearts, and ribs to the table. I eat a good amount and also try the salad bar. I drink a cold chope sometimes, but today I have coconut water. I leave at 8:00 p.m. feeling full
